Wave Rider was a quarterly surfing magazine of the 1970s published out of Cocoa Beach, Florida. Founded by Gunnar and John Griffin, it was launched during the mid-1970s and ceased publication by the early 1980s. Staff photographers included Rob Battipaglia, Joaquin Garcia and Larry Marshall. Wave Rider not only covered the international surfing scene but offered more inclusive coverage of the East Coast of the United States. In 1976 the Griffin brothers launched a sister publication called Skate Rider as skateboarding became more popular and a demand for more complete coverage was not being met by others. Both magazines would fold by early 1980s as economic hardships were experienced worldwide.
